Effective Leadership

In an excerpt from Leadership First, I love the description of effective leadership. “Too often people have a convoluted perception that having a position of leadership is their God-given right to feel superior to those in their organization. All too often, I have seen a certain level of arrogance and entitlement exhibited by people in leadership positions that sometimes leave me very upset.
Leadership is not a privilege. It is a responsibility. Leaders are accountable for the success and livelihoods of dozens, hundreds, or thousands of people and the decisions they make, the actions they take, and how they carry themselves will have a significant impact on many people, careers and in instances their entire lives.”
I personally have been fortunate to have had several effective leaders who have been my role model. And, yes, I have had the arrogant leaders as well. However, I think I was meant to have the superior leaders who, I believe have helped me learn how not to lead. I am grateful for both of these kinds of role models and I believe that when negative leadership happens, you can either get angry or learn. I learned and am still learning daily.
