It Takes a Village to Raise a Child

Gavin McCormack posted an article about how important for educators to be a part of each student’s village. He says that each child’s success in his learning environment has to do with the strength of their village.

As educators, we can only support and control the educational environment. So, it is all the more important that we create an educational environment where each student can blossom despite their home and community environment.

As a guidance Counsellor, I was a big part of the lives of the students who had weak home and community environments. Therefore, I was acutely aware of the importance of my support and guidance and advocacy for each of these students. It was not only an honour but also a challenge for me.

I made it my business to enroll the community of our school Parents who stepped up to the challenge. We are all an important part of each student’s village. It takes all of us to raise our students.
