4 Simple Steps to Student Retention

Gavin McCormack posted the following 4 steps to help students master skills:

1. We listen to someone tell us how it’s done. (Active Listening)

2. We watch someone demonstrate how to do it. (Inferential Understanding)

3. We do it ourselves. (Determination, Confidence, Resilience)

4. We teach somebody else. (Communication, Empathy and Collaboration)

McCormack says that only when we move through these phases can we truly call ourselves a master and the same goes for any lesson we are planning to teach our children.
If we truly want to see our children retain sound foundational knowledge whilst harnessing the essential skills for life, we must always include these simple steps in any learning sequence.
