Habit 1: Be Proactive

Habit 1 - be proactive. This is the key to unlocking all the other habits and that’s why it comes first. Habit 1 says “I am the force. I am the captain of my life. I can choose my attitude. I’m responsible for my own happiness or unhappiness. I am in the driver’s seat of my destiny, not just a passenger.”

ACTIVITY:

  1. What does proactive mean?
  2. What does reactive mean?
  3. Give and example of a proactive choice you have made.
  4. Identify the following phrases as proactive language or reactive language, such as: “It’s not my fault!” or “I will do it right now!” or “I just can’t decide!” or “Who does he think he is anyway?” or “That’s unfair!” or “If only…” or “Can we talk about this first?” or “I didn’t see it that way, thanks for letting me know.” Or “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean that.” Or “Leave me alone, you jerk. It’s none of your business.”
